Khao San Road, famously known as the backpacker's haven, is a 410-meter-long street in central Bangkok with street food stalls, bars, shops, restaurants, nightclubs, cafes, and massage parlors. This road also has one of the most famous night markets in Bangkok.

You will find the most random things at Khao San Road. From a fake Harvard degree to stalls selling barbecued scorpions, this place will not fail to surprise you! You can buy tie-dye hippie outfits, sunglasses, shoes, souvenirs, jewellery and much more. Make sure you brush your bargaining skills before coming here as the shopkeepers might try to sell you stuff at a higher price. You can also enjoy traditional Thai food, like the delicious Pad Thai and Thai crepes (Khanom Bueang). If you are not faint of heart, you can also try a bagful of fried insects! Fried insects are considered as a go-to snack in Bangkok. The insects include grasshoppers, water beetles, spiders, bamboo worms and scorpions. These are served with sauce and a pinch of pepper.

Tom Yung Kung restaurant is the best place to eat some traditional Thai food. It is a good getaway from the overcrowded and noisy Khao San Road. This restaurant has the yummiest seafood dishes and the best Tom Yum soup you’ll ever have. You can also try the food at any of the street food stalls. The best way to locate a good street food stall would be to check the number of locals and tourists eating at that stall. A lot of people eating at a stall is the best indication of good food!

Khao San Road is jam-packed with nightclubs. It is one of the best places to enjoy Bangkok’s vibrant nightlife. If you're a party lover, you definitely have to pay a visit to the clubs located here. This place is overcrowded throughout the day, and you can go there whenever you wish. But if you want to go on a night shopping spree, the best time to arrive would be in the evening at around 17:00.

Since it is a famous destination, it is over crowded, and you should be aware of pickpockets.
Shopkeepers try to sell things at a higher price to tourists. Typically, T-shirts should cost around THB 150 and CDs THB 100.

How To Reach Khao San Road

There is no BTS Skytrain near Khao San Road. The easiest way is to take a taxi. Since drivers tend to overcharge people, make sure you use a taxi which runs by the meter. A taxi ride from the airport will be 20 - 30 minutes, and you'll be charged THB 400 for it. You can also choose to travel by a tuk-tuk, but this will be more expensive than a taxi. If you're familiar with buses in Bangkok, you can take buses 3, 6, 15, 19, 30, 32, 64, 65, 82, 516 and 52.
